South Africa Bound: The controversial rap group Public Enemy is planning what is believed to be the first South African performance tour by American rappers, a spokesman confirmed Tuesday. The trek, scheduled for May and initially reported in Word Up! magazine, comes on the heels of Paul Simon’s shows earlier this month in South Africa, where violence threatened by radical black factions never materialized. New York-based promoter Michael Fisher, who is organizing the tour (which will also visit other Southern African countries), said that he is working with all prominent black South African political parties, but that there could be problems with the white-controlled government.
