GOLDEN RETURN: NBC flew former Olympic gold medalist Mike O’Brien of Newport Beach to New York this week, just to say they want him as a swimming commentator for the 1992 summer Olympics. . . . “I was wined and dined. It was a pretty incredible 20 hours,” says O’Brien, who captured the gold during the 1984 Olympics in the 1,500 freestyle competition. A former swim coach, he’s now a financial adviser and cable TV swim commentator. He took the NBC job and will head for the Olympic trials in March.
