Glendale : Haddad Guilty on 5 Charges

A jury has found Ebrahim Joseph Haddad, 39, guilty of five charges in a December, 1990, attack on a La Crescenta woman. But the panel could not reach a verdict on the sixth, an attempted murder charge, court officials said.
Pasadena Superior Court Judge Terry Smerling on Tuesday ordered the jurors to resume deliberations today on the remaining charge. The jury has found Haddad guilty of robbery, two counts of rape with a foreign object, aggravated mayhem and burglary.
Authorities allege that Haddad threatened the 33-year-old woman in her house, raped her with a shovel handle, then slashed her breasts and stabbed her with a knife.
The prosecutor argued that Haddad left the woman to die, but the defense attorney asserted that Haddad never tried to kill her.
