Pittsburgh Penguin star Mario Lemieux will probably have severe pain in his broken left hand for a week or two and probably will have trouble gripping a stick for about a month, according to a Pittsburgh orthopedic surgeon.

Lemieux, the NHL’s leading scorer, broke a bone in his left hand when he was slashed Tuesday night by New York’s Adam Graves in the Rangers’ 4-2 playoff victory over the Penguins.

Brian O’Neill, executive vice president of the NHL, will conduct a hearing in Pittsburgh on the incident.
