Third-Seeded Harbor College to play Fullerton in Opener

The Harbor College baseball team will play host to Fullerton College in the first round of the Southern California Regional playoffs today and Saturday.
Harbor (33-9) clinched the Southern California Athletic Conference title Monday with a 6-3 victory at East L.A. College. The Seahawks, led by sophomore catcher Rene Lopez, who is batting .409, are seeded third in the 16-team South bracket.
Fullerton (19-17-1) finished third in the Orange Empire League and is seeded 14th.
The best-of-three series starts today at 2 p.m. The teams meet again at 11 a.m. Saturday and a third game, if necessary, will follow.
The winner will advance to one of four regional finals on May 15-17 at the site of the highest-seeded team.
Cerritos, winner of the South Coast Conference title, is the highest-seeded team in Harbor’s bracket. The No. 2 Falcons (27-8-1) will play host today and Saturday to No. 15 Cuesta (20-14).
The four-team state tournament is scheduled for May 22-24 at the Riverside Sports Complex.
