ST. PAUL, Minn. — An administrator at California State University San Marcos was named Tuesday as the 11th president of Mankato State University in Minnesota.
Richard R. Rush was unanimously selected by the nine-member board from a field of four finalists. Rush has been a professor of English literature and executive vice president at San Marcos since 1989. He previously was the university’s chief academic officer.
Board president Elizabeth Pegues said its members were impressed with Rush’s academic and fiscal experience.
“He led the establishment of California State University San Marcos, the first new public university to be created in California in the last 20 years,” Pegues said.
Rush succeeds Margaret Preska, who resigned in February to take a sabbatical and become a distinguished service professor in the state university system.
