Around the World: An Italian film company plans to produce an unusual version of Puccini’s warhorse “Tosca,” featuring Placido Domingo with Catherine Malfitano in the role of Tosca, next month. The idea is to broadcast it live around the world from Rome. Each of the opera’s three acts is scheduled to take place at the exact time and setting specified by the composer. Act I will be broadcast July 11 at noon (Rome time), Act II begins at 9:40 that night and Act III at 7 the next morning. So far, 45 countries have signed up to take the satellite broadcast--but the United States isn’t one of them.
