CSUN Signs Citrus Pitcher Contreras

Marco Contreras, a right-handed pitcher from Citrus College, will play baseball for Cal State Northridge next season.
Contreras, who won nine games last season, signed scholarship papers earlier this week, his family said Thursday.
CSUN Coach Bill Kernen said he expected Contreras to be selected in major league baseball’s amateur draft. But when Kernen received a complete list of the draft selections, Contreras’ name was missing.
“I thought for sure he was going to get drafted and sign,” Kernen said.
He didn’t get drafted, but he has now signed--with Northridge.
“He has a good arm and he’s a fighter,” Kernen said. “It’s pretty baffling to me that he was still available.”
