Wolfe Hired as Kennedy Girls’ Basketball Coach

Karen Wolfe, Cypress College women’s basketball assistant, has been named girls’ varsity basketball coach at Kennedy High School, Athletic Director Shirley Smith said. Wolfe replaced Pat O’Hern, who resigned to become an assistant at Cypress College.
Wolfe graduated from Garden Grove High in 1985 and played basketball for two seasons at Cypress College and one at Cal State Northridge. She earned her master’s degree at Cal State Long Beach.
Wolfe will be a walk-on coach at Kennedy and continue as a part-time teacher at Cypress College.
Coach Bruce Rollinson of Mater Dei announced that wide receiver Jon Peck of Irvine and tight end Jack Guild of Calvary Chapel have been added to the South team that will participate in the Orange County all-star football game scheduled for July 10 at Orange Coast College.
Wide receiver Anthony Ramirez of Mission Viejo declined an invitation to play, and Scott Patton of Capistrano Valley signed a professional baseball contract with the Chicago White Sox organization this week.
The South will begin daily workouts at 5 p.m. Monday at Mater Dei.
Nine Orange County football players have been selected to play in the third Hawaiian Classic, scheduled for June 27 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu.
The doubleheader features players from Los Angeles, San Gabriel Valley, Long Beach, and Riverside and Orange counties competing against players from Oahu and surrounding islands.
The Orange County players include wide receiver Jason Clark (Corona del Mar), quarterback James Wyatt (Woodbridge), defensive back Fred Romo (El Modena), linebacker Mike Basalacchi (Foothill), linebacker Bill Cathey (Westminster), linebacker Marty Gomez (Troy), defensive end Trent Bordok (Tustin), defensive end Bodie Berg (Troy) and offensive tackle Robert Vasquez (Westminster).
The county players will be coached by Louie Torres, offensive coordinator at Alhambra High, and Jeff Veeder, defensive coordinator at Long Beach Millikan. The players will leave June 26 and live in the dorms at the University of Hawaii.
