Disney Denies Plans for Subic Bay Theme Park: Walt Disney Co. denied that it has proposed building a new Disneyland theme park on the soon-to-be-abandoned U.S. naval base at Subic Bay in the Philippines. On Sunday, the head of the Philippine panel searching for an alternate use for the 98,000-acre site said Disney and Universal Studios wanted to build attractions there. Mayor Richard Gordon of Olongapo, a city 50 miles northwest of Manila, said Universal suggested a studio complex at Subic, while Disney was proposing a Disneyland theme park. “We’ve made no such request, nor do we have any plans” to do so, responded Erwin Okun, senior vice president for Disney. A call to Universal seeking comment was not immediately returned.
