Artem Kopot, the first Russian ever drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins, was killed in a one-car accident near his home in Chelyabinsk, Russia.
Penguin spokesman Harry Sanders said the team learned Thursday that Kopot was driving alone when he was killed. Sanders said no other details were available about Monday’s wreck.
Kopot, one of three Europeans drafted by the Penguins last month, would have turned 20 today.
