Ford Expanding Kentucky Truck Plant: Ford Motor Co. said it will start construction next month on a $650-million addition to add light-duty truck production to its Kentucky truck plant in Louisville. Ford will add a second shift of about 1,400 workers at the Kentucky plant to build heavy-duty versions of its F-series trucks following completion of the expansion, to be done in two phases. The plant now has about 2,200 workers. Production capacity will be increased by 200,000 trucks a year over present capacity of 70,000 medium- and heavy-duty trucks, Ford said. The first phase will be completed by October, 1993. The second phase is to be completed in early 1995, the nation’s No. 2 auto maker said.
