THE NEW CITY by Lebbeus Woods (Touchstone: $25, illustrated, paperback original). Lebbeus Woods’ drawings of a futuristic city suggest the sets for “Star Wars” redesigned by Albert Speer. Complex mathematical formulae underlie the graceful, icily geometric forms he depicts. Despite the smoke that rises from some of the chimneys, these Gargantuan, slightly seedy buildings appear uninhabited, as if the people who built them deserted them for a warmer, more humane environment.
