Jeremy Got His Gun

It may appear to the viewer of “Jeremy” that the poor misunderstood boy slaughters his fellow classmates, but that is an incorrect premise. I believe the song was inspired by a true story that Pearl Jam lead singer Eddie Vedder read in a newspaper about a young boy who blew out his brains for show-and-tell at school. The classmates were in shock, not dead.
Of course, all art is open to interpretation, but I believe this was what was intended by the artist. It leaves a different taste in one’s mouth altogether.
