WATTS : Plan for Park-Like Area Near Blue Line Unveiled

The Los Angeles County Transportation Commission unveiled plans Monday for transformation of a vacant lot adjacent to the Metro Blue Line tracks in Watts into a recreational green area.
The Watts Urban Greenways Project is the first project of a countywide master plan calling for the development of green spaces for public recreation.
The green spaces can be developed on rights of way owned by the LACTC, or located near public transportation facilities. Containing bike paths, pedestrian or equestrian trails and artwork, they will connect transportation facilities to historic sites, cultural centers or natural resources.
The Watts Urban Greenways Project will connect the 103rd Street Metro Blue Line station to Simon Rodia’s historic Watts Towers. Construction plans include a bike path, areas dedicated for artwork, and drought-tolerant vegetation, grass and shade trees.
