Storm Breaks Florida Insurer: Hurricane Andrew has claimed another victim--an insurance company that’s going broke because of the storm. A Leon County circuit judge ordered Florida Fire & Casualty Insurance Co. liquidated after it became clear that claims will outstrip the firm’s ability to pay, Insurance Commissioner Tom Gallagher said. The state-run Florida Insurance Guaranty Assn. will cover all claims against Florida Fire & Casualty, Gallagher said. The amount of the claims was not available. The Ft. Lauderdale-based company insured about 11,000 policyholders, writing mainly homeowners and flood insurance.
