WESTWOOD : More Than 1,000 Hear Jackson’s Registration Pitch

More than 1,000 people turned out at UCLA on Thursday to hear the Rev. Jesse Jackson urge students to register to vote and help force the Bush Administration out of office.
“Ten million Americans are unemployed,” Jackson told the crowd. “One out of 10 Americans is on food stamps. . . . And then we’re preached down to about family values. We will fight back by voting. We will stop the pain.”
Jackson will spend the weekend in Southern California to help the Democratic party register voters and boost the turnout in the November presidential election.
Although he mentioned Democratic nominee Bill Clinton by name only twice in his 30-minute speech, he said the Democratic ticket is clearly the best choice and told the enthusiastic students: “Young America can play a critical role in the fight for change in America this year.”
