Cypress is the second-ranked women’s soccer team in Southern California and No. 3 in the state, and Yates has been an important reason why.
Yates was a standout at Orange Lutheran High, where she was twice selected to the All-Southern Section team and was the Lancers’ most valuable player twice as well.
Last week, she scored four goals and added an assist as Cypress beat Orange Empire Conference opponents Golden West and Irvine Valley by 4-0 scores. Yates had two goals in each victory for Cypress, which is 6-1 and 3-0 in conference.
Yates is tied with Danielle Straub for the team lead in goals, with nine. Yates also has four assists.
Other top performers:
Golden West’s Heather Flaherty, who had 20 kills and 14 blocks as the Rustlers won two volleyball matches.
