Time Out: Kristy McNichol is taking a break from NBC’s “Empty Nest” on the advice of her doctors to “take it easy.” The 29-year-old actress suffers from severe mood swings, and her condition can lead to exhaustion and other problems, said the show’s executive producer, Tony Thomas. The duration of the leave is indefinite, and her absence will be explained by saying her character, a policewoman, is on an undercover assignment.
