Ex-SDSU Assistant to Coach Villa Park

Steve Harris has been hired as the boys’ basketball coach at Villa Park High, Athletic Director Frank Becker said Wednesday.

Harris, 23, was a volunteer assistant at San Diego State last season. He replaces Chris Burton, who resigned last month to take a job in Washington.

“We feel we have a young coach who is going to stay here awhile,” Becker said. “That should help our program.”

Harris, a nephew of Ocean View Coach Jim Harris, played two seasons on Ocean View’s varsity. He graduated in 1991 from UCLA, where he was the student manager for the basketball team.
