* Gerald M. Stern, 55, retired Dec. 30 from Occidental Petroleum Corp. Stern has been an executive vice president and senior general counsel of the Los Angeles-based oil company since 1981, on the board of directors since 1988 and corporate secretary since January.
John W. Alden, Occidental associate general counsel, will be acting general counsel until a successor is named.
