Cat Licenses

Why elected politicians would want to step on the tails of thousands of Los Angeles County cats, the vast majority of which are peaceful and civilized members of the animal kingdom, is beyond me.

The sooner our three county supervisors admit they have made a monumental blunder by voting to levy a hilarious, uncollectable tax on cat owners, the better (Jan. 6). Remember Harpo Marx as dog catcher? Jack Smith was right to quote Adlai Stevenson’s famous veto of an Illinois cat tax (Jan. 11). The governor’s ghost will certainly appear in Los Angeles around election time if the taxing of elderly Social Security survivors, who share their meager food with their lovely, little, four-legged friends, is allowed to stand. Ten dollars per cat, $5 if neutered. It’s Laurel and Hardy time.
