COUNTYWIDE : Economic Summit to Involve Leaders From 3 Counties
- Share via
Political leaders from Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties will hold a mini economic summit this week to discuss ways to tackle the region’s economic woes.
Assemblyman Jack O’Connell (D-Carpinteria) will co-sponsor the summit with state Assemblywoman Andrea Seastrand (R-San Luis Obispo) and state Sen. Gary K. Hart (D-Santa Barbara).
The event is the first of its kind and is designed to educate and prepare local leaders who will attend a Feb. 17 statewide economic summit in Los Angeles. The statewide summit will be sponsored by Gov. Pete Wilson and Assembly Speaker Willie Brown.
The goal of the summit is to develop legislative and administrative remedies to help pull California out of its deep recession, according to O’Connell.
He said he expects the main issues discussed at the summit will be tourism, regulatory reform, workers compensation and ways to encourage businesses to stay in the area and to attract others.
The summit will be held between 10 a.m. and noon Saturday at the Miramar Hotel, 1555 Jameson Lane, Santa Barbara. Reservations are encouraged.
