PREP ROUNDUP : Top-Ranked Eagles Win in Soccer

Kevin Cimini scored 20 minutes into the second half to give Santa Margarita a 1-0 victory over Saddleback Monday in a Sea View League boys’ soccer game at Santa Margarita.
Goalkeeper Matt Reis had five saves for the Eagles (15-0-3, 5-0-2), who are ranked No. 1 in Orange County. It was his 13th shutout of the season.
Saddleback, ranked fifth in the county, is 10-5-1 and 3-2-1.
In another Sea View League game:
Corona del Mar 2, Newport Harbor 1--Jason Boyce scored two second-half goals for visiting Corona del Mar (16-0-3, 6-0-1), ranked third in the county. Newport Harbor is 4-6-4 and 2-2-2.
In the Century League:
El Modena 2, Canyon 1--Alex Mandel scored the game-winning goal with 10 seconds remaining for host El Modena (7-4-0, 4-1). Canyon is 10-5-4 and 1-2-1.
Santa Ana Valley 2, Foothill 0--Israel Hernandez had two assists for host Santa Ana Valley (16-2, 4-0), ranked fourth in the county. Foothill is 10-6-2 and 2-3.
In the Olympic League:
Orange Lutheran 4, Brethren Christian 1--Chris Campbell scored three goals for host Orange Lutheran (2-1 in league).
In the Orange League:
Western 5, Savanna 1--Jason Covarrubias had three goals and an assist for visiting Western (9-3-2, 1-2-1).
In the Pacific Coast League:
Laguna Hills 4, Costa Mesa 0--Goalie Mike Messinger posted his ninth shutout of the season, a single-season school record, for host Laguna Hills (6-5-7, 2-0-2).
In the South Coast League:
Capistrano Valley 4, Mission Viejo 0--Gary Berry scored three goals for visiting Capistrano Valley (13-4-2, 3-1).
In Century League girls’ soccer:
Canyon 6, Santa Ana Valley 0--Senior Kim Campbell scored four goals, raising her season total to 24, for host Canyon (15-2, 4-0), ranked fourth in the county.
In Garden Grove League boys’ basketball:
Kennedy 93, Los Amigos 56--Paul Pappas had 32 points, including eight three-pointers, and Steve Vetica had a school-record 17 assists for visiting Kennedy (17-3, 8-0), the third-ranked team in the county. Jeff Martell scored 25 points for Los Amigos (4-13, 3-5).
Pacifica 46, Bolsa Grande 44--Chris Vlasic had 16 points and 13 rebounds for visiting Pacifica (9-7, 4-4). James Britton had 16 points for Bolsa Grande (6-11, 1-7).
Rancho Alamitos 70, Garden Grove 61--Helmut Bustamante had 20 points and 14 rebounds for host Rancho Alamitos (10-9, 6-2). Cornel Archer scored 15 points for Garden Grove (9-9, 5-3).
Santiago 60, La Quinta 53--Jesus Castro had 15 points, including seven of seven from the field, to lead host Santiago (6-12, 2-6).
In Garden Grove League girls’ basketball:
Kennedy 63, Los Amigos 26--Lynly Matsumoto had 18 points and eight assists for visiting Kennedy (14-4, 7-1). Carmella Zavala scored 16 points for Los Amigos.
Santiago 60, La Quinta 52--Senior America Robledo had a career-high 40 points, on 18-of-27 shooting from the field, for host Santiago (12-5, 5-3). Robledo scored 10 in the first quarter, 14 in the second, 12 in the third and four in the fourth.
