Miners to Strike; Oil Workers Settle: The United Mine Workers called a strike against Peabody Holding Co. of St. Louis. The strike was to begin at midnight local time Monday and would affect more than 7,700 employees of Peabody, which has operations in nine states. It would include subsidiaries Peabody Coal of Henderson, Ky., and Eastern Associated Coal of Charleston, W. Va., the union said. At the same time, the 40,000 members of the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers union, which represents virtually all the oil field, refinery and pipeline workers in the country, reached an agreement with Amoco Corp. If the contract is ratified by Amoco workers, it will be the model for other oil companies.
