The 1992-93 season has developed into one long dry spell for the Cal State Northridge women’s basketball team. The Matadors on Tuesday suffered their 12th consecutive loss, falling, 80-72, to Pepperdine in Malibu.
CSUN (4-16) might have ended the drought if not for two scoreless streaks. The Matadors trailed, 30-23, in the first half but went scoreless the final 5 minutes 23 seconds. They trailed, 52-45, in the second half when they went scoreless for a 5:34 span marked by Northridge turnovers and easy Wave baskets.
Pepperdine (11-11) put the game away with a 17-2 run. The Matadors made it close by hitting three three-point shots in the final 4:26, two of which were made by Mary Jean Espino. Espino finished with a team-high 17 points.
Cal Lutheran 95, La Sierra 31--Nicole Albert scored 26 points and Evelyn Albert added 25 as the host Regals cruised past the Golden Eagles in a nonconference game.
Cal Lutheran raced to a 50-16 advantage by halftime, then emptied its bench. Eight players contributed to the scoring for the Regals (8-11) and all five starters scored at least 10 points.
