NHL ROUNDUP : Flyers, Canadiens in Rare 0-0 Tie

From Associated Press

Philadelphia goaltender Tommy Soderstrom and his Montreal counterpart Andre Racicot turned in stellar performances as the Flyers and Canadiens skated to a 0-0 tie Thursday night at Philadelphia.

Soderstrom turned away 23 shots and Racicot stopped 26 as both goalies recorded the second shutouts of his career in the first scoreless tie in the NHL since the New York Rangers and New York Islanders did it on Dec. 9, 1989.

“It was a big, big game,” said Racicot, who improved his record to 12-3-1. “It was my best game of the year. You know you can’t let a goal in. There’s not a great margin of error. It was like a playoff game tonight.”

Said Philadelphia Coach Bill Dineen: “That’s the way the game of hockey is supposed to be played. Both teams had scoring chances and the goaltending was great.”

Minnesota 1, Tampa Bay 0--Darcy Wakaluk made 34 saves and Tommy Sjodin scored on a power play in the third period, giving the North Stars a victory over the Lightning at Tampa Bay.

Sjodin scored his seventh goal of the season on shot that deflected off the knee of Tampa Bay defenseman Shawn Chambers and past goalie Wendell Young, who finished with 23 saves.
