School: Estancia
Sport: Basketball
Position: Guard-forward
Class: Senior
Faulkner, the only player returning from Estancia’s Pacific Coast League runner-up team last season, made sure the Eagles got a share of their second league title in three years by scoring 34 points--22 in the second half--in a 72-63 victory over Laguna Beach Friday. Entering Friday’s game, Faulkner was averaging 17.8 points and had a high of 26, but Estancia needed something extra against Laguna Beach. “He wanted to win that game--the league championship was on the line,” Estancia Coach Tim Parsel said. “So he just took charge. He’s able to do that on any given night. Not too many players in the county can stop him.” Faulkner, who will attend Southern Utah State, made 13 of 18 shots from the field and all four of his three-point shots and pulled down seven rebounds. He had 17 points and nine rebounds in Estancia’s 42-38 loss to Century Wednesday.
Other top performers:
Matt Ambrose, who helped Huntington Beach complete an undefeated Sunset League season with 21 points and 12 rebounds in an 81-40 victory over Edison and 15 points in a 69-49 victory over Santa Ana.
Oscar Hernandez, whose two second-half goals gave Santa Ana a 3-2 victory over Servite that wrapped up the Sunset League championship. He also scored a goal in the Saints’ 8-2 victory over Huntington Beach.
Chris Roselli, who had two goals and two assists in Sunny Hills’ 4-1 victory over Troy and scored two goals in a 3-0 victory over La Habra.
Chris St. Clair, who scored a school-record 40 points for Sonora in an 84-66 victory over La Habra and 25, including four free throws down the stretch, in a 54-48 victory over Buena Park that completed an undefeated Freeway League season.
