World IN BRIEF : SRI LANKA : Tamil Tiger Prison Camps Reported
- Share via
Tamil Tiger rebels are holding about 4,000 people in Nazi-like prison camps in northern and eastern Sri Lanka, according to a human rights report distributed to journalists. Some of the prisoners are being tortured and beaten to death, said the University of Teachers for Human Rights (Jaffna) in its 10th report. The teachers are members of Sri Lanka’s Tamil minority who study human rights abuses that Tamil rebels commit against other Tamils. The report said the prisons include small underground bunkers and large jungle camps run by sadistic guards.
