New York Yankee infielder Randy Velarde won his salary arbitration case for $1.05 million, but Chicago Cub first baseman Mark Grace lost his arbitration case and was awarded a one-season salary of $3.3 million.
Pittsburgh infielder Jeff King also lost his arbitration case and was awarded a one-season salary of $675,000.
Meanwhile, Boston signed free agent relief pitcher Jeff Russell to a one-year deal with a $500,000 base salary and agreed to one-year contracts with shortstop John Valentin, pitcher Ken Ryan and outfielder Jeff McNeely.
