The First African Methodist Episcopal Church will sponsor a candidates’ forum Saturday for the leading contenders in the city’s mayoral race.
Community activist Kerman Maddox, who will serve as debate coordinator, said it “will give community people the opportunity to have candidates speak directly to them about critical issues in the African-American community.”
Candidates scheduled to attend are City Councilmen Michael Woo, Nate Holden and Joel Wachs, Assemblyman Richard Katz (D-Panorama City), businessman Richard Riordan, former RTD President Nick Patsaouras, attorney Stan Sanders, former Deputy Mayor Tom Houston, former Deputy Mayor Linda Griego and former Ambassador Julian Nava.
Panelists include Pat Harvey of KCAL-TV Channel 9, Charmaine Wilkerson of KABC-TV Channel 7, Los Angeles Sentinel reporter Dennis Schatzman and Milton McGriff of the Wave publications.
The forum is scheduled for noon to 2 p.m. at the church, 2270 S. Harvard Blvd.
