In response to “Iran Renews Death Edict for Author Rushdie,” Feb. 15:
Once again the Iranian government, through its spokesman the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, demonstrates intolerance for the dissemination of (even fictional) ideas contrary to its own fundamentalist interpretation of Islamic law with a renewed call for author Salman Rushdie’s death.
The ayatollah speaks of Rushdie as “this mercenary author” while exhorting Muslims to do away with a man over whose head dangles a $3-million reward! Why not cancel the fatwa and use that $3 million to begin solving some of Iran’s real problems?
