COMPTON : Police Manhunt Continues for Killers of 2 Officers

A massive manhunt for the killers of two Compton police officers continued Thursday with more than 30 officers combing Los Angeles County for information on a red truck and one suspect.

Compton police are receiving help from the Los Angeles police and sheriff’s departments and the district attorney’s office, all of which have donated at least two investigators to the case. About two dozen Compton investigators are assigned to the case, said police Lt. Joe Flores, but all 127 officers are searching out clues in their spare time.

Police have identified one suspect, described as an African-American man, between 28 and 32 years old, wearing a green Army jacket. No description is available for the second assailant wanted in the execution-style slaying of Officer Kevin Michael Burrell, 29, and Reservist James Wayne MacDonald, 23.

The two were shot to death during what seemed to be a routine traffic stop on Rosecrans Boulevard late Monday. One or both suspects pulled a gun and began shooting just after--or during--a pat-down search conducted by one of the officers.
