Coach: Jerry Whitaker (15th year).
1992: Won Century League championship (5-1); won Brea and Katella relays.
Key returners: Katie Mook, So., 100 LH (14.57), 300 LH (45.4), 100 (11.6); Tara Oettinger, So., 100 (11.6), 200 (25.5), LJ (17-0); Christina Ivey, Sr., HJ (5-3), TJ (36-8); Katie Kelso, Sr., 800 (2:28.9); Shannon McGlone, So., 100 LH (16.5), 300 LH (52.2).
Key newcomers: Danielle Dawson, Jr., shotput, discus; Shandrian Waters, Jr., shotput, discus; Tricia Eldridge, Fr., HJ; Sarah McCaffrey, Fr., LJ, TJ.
Outlook: All the top scorers from last year’s team are back, including Ivey, who took third in the section in the high jump and medaled in the triple jump as a sophomore; Mook, who was sixth in the 100 hurdles; and Oettinger, who was second in the long jump and fourth in the 200. The newcomers provide depth in the sprints, throws and jumps, and they represent a solid group of athletes who will score points. They will also be able to field legitimate relay teams--finally. Whitaker’s goal of cracking the county’s top three might not be too far-fetched.
