Under no circumstances should RVers use the roadside rest areas of France, Spain or Italy to spend the night. To do so is a major security risk. Dutch senior citizens heading in their RVs for the warmer campground of Spain in winter like to travel in convoys, since even in broad daylight old-fashioned highway robbery takes place on the main routes from the north through France and Spain. In those countries, always spend the night at an official campground, however unromantic or expensive.
