The Severin Wunderman Museum in Irvine will present the 1993 Jean Cocteau International Style Award to Bando Tamasaburo V on March 25 in Osaka, Japan. This award is given to individuals whose personal style and participation in the arts reflects the spirit of Jean Cocteau, the literary and artistic figure whose works are collected by the museum. Bando Tamasaburo V is the stage name of a Kabuki actor whose female roles also include such Western characters as Shakespeare’s Desdemona and Lady Macbeth, and Euripedes’ Medea. He was first seen in the U.S. in 1982, when he toured with the Grand Kabuki.
