UCLA Extension Class on Assistant Directing
- Share via
Jerry Ziesmer, who has been first assistant director to Francis Ford Coppola, Steven Spielberg and John Huston, will instruct a two-day UCLA Extension seminar, “The Craft of the Assistant Director I.”
The class will give an overview of the role of an assistant director, including devising shooting schedules, deciding on crew, finding locations and working with the director and producer.
“To be successful as an assistant director, you must learn how to anticipate the needs of a filmmaker, such as breaking down a script,” Ziesmer said. “It’s a matter of translating theory into practice.”
The workshop will meet April 17 and 18. The fee is $195 and students may earn 1.5 units of credit in Motion Picture/TV.
