CYPRESS — Several neighbors in the 9400 block of Ethel Street began watering down their shake roofs Thursday afternoon after a fire broke out on the roof of one home and quickly spread to the roof of the house next door.
The fire, which caused an estimated $200,000 damage, started at a single-story home at 9423 Ethel St. at 2:50 p.m., Orange County Fire Department spokeswoman Kathleen Cha said.
“The resident was home watching television in the living room when he heard a loud popping noise, smelled something and went outside to discover his roof on fire,” Cha said.
The resident, Mike McCall, was not injured.
