Clinton Names Treasury’s Altman Interim Chief Executive of RTC

President Clinton on Monday named Deputy Treasury Secretary Roger Altman to head up the Resolution Trust Corp. while the Administration looks for a permanent chief executive at the thrift cleanup agency.
Altman’s responsibilities at the RTC will be in addition to his Treasury duties.
The appointment of an interim chief executive follows the departure of Albert V. Casey as the head of the RTC. The Clinton Administration accepted Casey’s resignation Monday.
Casey was appointed by former President Bush and had sought to keep his job under President Clinton.
But he recently came under fire from members of Congress and others in response to news that the RTC had hired a large number of contract employees and paid them unusually high wages to do photocopying work at a failed California thrift.
Casey had said he intended to leave the RTC on April 1.
Last week, he disclosed that he would leave his post three weeks earlier than planned.
