British Academy Awards: In a number of instances, this year’s nominees for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts mirror those of Hollywood’s own Academy Awards. On Sunday, the British group will announce its winners at ceremonies in London and Los Angeles, connected by a satellite hookup. It will be breakfast-time when such nominees as Gene Hackman, Kathy Bates, screenwriter David Webb Peoples and director Neil Jordan gather at the Universal Studios site. Best picture nominees for the British prize are “The Crying Game,” “Howards End,” “The Player,” “Strictly Ballroom” and “Unforgiven.”
