Catholics and Abortion
The argument put forth by three members of California Catholics for Free Choice (letter, March 11) that Cardinal Roger Mahony is redefining who is a Catholic is absurd on its face and hypocritical in the extreme. Mahony is a bishop of the church. It’s his job to define Catholic dogma and quite specifically not the job of individual Catholics or groups of citizens who say they are Catholics. The persistent attempts by such people to force the church to fashion itself in the image of an increasingly immoral society are destructive of the teachings of Jesus Christ and of society itself.
Their argument that an abortion is nothing more than a simple medical procedure is scientifically inaccurate and morally corrupt.
