COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Irvine Valley Beats Golden West to Stop 31-Game Conference Skid

Irvine Valley won its first Orange Empire Conference softball game, defeating Golden West, 3-2, Wednesday in Irvine.
Irvine Valley stopped a 31-game conference losing streak. The Lasers (4-17, 1-10 in conference) rallied with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Cheryl Rivet’s single drove in the tying run and Terri Fobell scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch by Marcy Rainwater.
Julie Ehret allowed only a second-inning bunt single to Shelley Nelson. Golden West is 5-12, 2-9.

In other Orange Empire Conference softball games:
Fullerton 2, Orange Coast 0--Angie Guerrero tossed a two-hitter and struck out seven for Fullerton (17-7, 7-4). Jana Bloomfield went 3 for 3 and Kathy Donovan had a triple for Fullerton. Orange Coast fell to 14-8, 8-3.
Saddleback 2, Riverside 1--Left fielder Angela Wolfe drove in both runs for Saddleback on a double in the third. Laura Kesterson (15-8, 4-6) earned the victory for Saddleback (18-8, 5-6), striking out six batters and walking none in seven innings. Riverside is 7-8, 6-5.
Cypress 6, Rancho Santiago 1--Kristi Richerson had two singles and two RBIs for Cypress (27-10, 9-2). Teresa Pixler drove in the run for Rancho Santiago (13-14, 6-5).

In Orange Empire Conference golf:
Saddleback 354, Rancho Santiago 382, Fullerton 399, Cypress 410--Justin Boatman shot three-under 69 for Saddleback (15-1), which broke its school record with a six-under-par cumulative score at the El Prado Chino Creek course. Last month, the Gauchos shot a three-under 352 at the San Diego Golf Academy Invitational.
