The Ten Commandments (ABC Sunday at 7 p.m.) The last classic Hollywood spectacle made by a silent-era pioneer with a deep Victorian sensibility. Cecil B. DeMille’s 1956 remake of his 1923 film is never less than stirring and is possessed of genuine pictorial grandeur. Charlton Heston’s Moses is a great heroic portrayal that has stood the test of time.
Senso (Bravo Monday at 8 p.m., Tuesday at 1 a.m.) Luchino Visconti’s lush 1954 film is an homage to a vanished era of romantic splendor that sets its turbulent love story of a Venetian countess (Alida Valli) and a handsome Austrian lieutenant (Farley Granger) against the historic backdrop of the fomenting Risorgimento.
Good Morning, Babylon (KCET Friday at 10 p.m.) For their first English-language film the Taviani brothers spin a fictional tale of two Italian artisan-brothers (Vincent Spano, Joaquim de Almeida) who create the elephants for the famous Babylon set in D.W. Griffith’s “Intolerance” (1916).
