Police Fear Suicide Victim Wired to Bomb

Sheriff’s deputies, who discovered the body of a Castaic man who committed suicide, called in the bomb squad because they thought the body was rigged to a bomb, authorities said Sunday.

But what deputies thought were plastic explosives turned out to be extra ammunition, Deputy Diane Hecht said.

The body of the unidentified man, who shot himself, was discovered about 1 p.m. Saturday in a cabin in the 26500 block of Tapia Canyon Road, Hecht said.

When sheriff’s deputies arrived, they noticed wires protruding from under the body, Hecht said. Suspecting the wires might be connected to a bomb in the gun belt, the deputies called for help. Bomb squad investigators arrived about 6 p.m. and determined that the wires led to extra ammunition.
