WASHINGTON — Sen. David Durenberger (R-Minn.) will be arraigned April 16 on federal charges that he misused his Senate expense account, an aide to U.S. District Judge Stanley Harris said Tuesday.
Durenberger is accused of cheating taxpayers out of $3,825 by hiding his ownership in a Minneapolis condominium where he stayed at government expense. Durenberger was denounced by the Senate in 1990 for that and other financial improprieties. He denies he had any criminal intent and said he would fight the charges.
