Clinton Campaigner Edged in House Race

MILWAUKEE — A state legislator defeated a Clinton campaign boss in the Democratic primary Tuesday to fill the U.S. House seat Defense Secretary Les Aspin held for 22 years. A millionaire developer won the GOP nomination.
With 60% of precincts reporting in the 1st District race, Peter Barca had 16,524, or 59%, to 7,981, or 28%, for Jeffrey Neubauer, a former state Democratic chairman who led President Clinton’s Wisconsin election campaign.
In the GOP primary, Mark Neumann had 12,183 votes, or 78%, to 3,456, or 22%, for state Rep. Charles Coleman.
