Two girls’ basketball players from the South Bay have been named to the All-Southern Section Division II second team selected by the Amateur Athletic Foundation-First Interstate All-Southern California Board of Athletics.
The players are forward Tiffany Williams of Redondo and guard Laurie Shimizu of West Torrance. It is the first time either player has been selected to the team.
Williams, a 5-foot-9 senior, was one of the area’s most dominant inside players last season. She averaged 19.5 points and 14.5 rebounds and was named the Ocean League’s most outstanding player.
Shimizu, a 5-4 senior who led West to a 21-6 record, averaged 17.7 points and was named Pioneer League most valuable player. She also ranked among team leaders in three-point baskets and assists.
Junior guard Nicole Erickson of Brea-Olinda was named the division player of the year.
