NYSE Joins Comex Suitors: The New York Stock Exchange has emerged as the latest contender for a partnership or merger with the Commodity Exchange, a Comex spokesman confirmed. A letter from an NYSE officer proposing discussions on a joint venture with the Comex was submitted to all 25 board members at a Comex governors meeting at the World Trade Center. Comex governors also discussed bid proposals from the New York Mercantile Exchange and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. A merger offer from the Chicago Board of Trade is already on the table. NYSE spokesman Raymond Pellecchia said the stock exchange isn’t in discussions to acquire the Comex. He declined to comment on a merger or a partnership with the metals exchange.
