Danny Hamel fought a case of tendinitis and a rocky course to win the San Felipe 250 off-road race in Mexico.
Hamel, 20, of Boulder City, Nev., teamed with Larry Roeseler, 36, of Hesperia, Calif., on a Kawasaki 500 motorcycle to cover the 257.3-mile desert course in an elapsed time of 4 hours 23 minutes 13 seconds for an average speed of 58.65 m.p.h.
Scott Douglas of Ramona, Calif., claimed the overall four-wheel victory. He drove a Ford Ranger mini-pickup to an elapsed time of 4:43.36.
