Mondays Top Layoff List: Employers announced more layoffs on Mondays during the first three months of the year than on any other day, a national job placement consulting firm said. The Challenger Employment report, put out by Challenger, Gray & Christmas, says that of the 170,615 layoffs announced by 150 employers in the first quarter, 40% were announced on a Monday. Tuesday ranked second at 32%, and Thursday was third with 11%. “Announcing layoffs on Monday makes more of a ‘clean break’ and provides the employee with an opportunity to get an early start on planning his or her search for a new job,” consulting firm President James E. Challenger said.
